Araw ng Dabaw Celebration

Davao as one of the most livable cities in Asia is celebrating its 72nd Anniversary with this year’s theme “Pagtupad sa Dakilang Pangako” (Fulfilling the Noble Promise) and is commemorated every 16th day of the month of March. This marks as Davao City’s highlighted annual event together with the Kadayawan Festival. This annual celebration upholds the oneness of every people of Davao.

Different and exciting events are scheduled to give fun and remarkable experience to the people of Davao and visitors. The “Araw ng Dabaw” was officially opened last March 09, 2009 at Quezon Park with the “Dawow” Grand Opening Ceremony. Among the events of the Araw ng Dabaw are:

1. Kalasikas: Originated from the local meaning of the soughing of leaves which bring forth beautiful music. This represents fortune, unity and peace as it showcases the exquisite creation of the people of Davao called “Garbo sa Dabaw” (Pride of Davao). Different groups join as they render their all out performance during the celebration. Kalasikas is a scene that promotes culture, creativity and artistic magnificence.
2. Duhwow Exhibit: This highlights the social, political and economic accomplishments of Davao City for 72 years. It shows trophies, photos, notes, tokens and memorabilia. The said exhibit is open until April 8, 2009.
3. Mutya ng Dabaw: The five finalists were finally chosen to vie for crown for Mutya ng Dabaw 2009. The said candidates will compete for the titles Sinag ng Dabaw, Patnubay ng Dabaw, Pag-asa ng Dabaw, Diwa ng Dabaw and the 2009 Mutya ng Dabaw.

Abrezza

The Ayala Land Incorporated in partnership with Anflocor will infuse 5-Billion Peso worth of investments in Davao City for the development of a new multi-use shopping mall with Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) facilities, residential, hotel and commercial lots along Bajada Street.

The project will be built in a 10-hectare property owned by the Floreindos. This huge mall project is known as “Abreeza” and is expected to be completed in the next three years. This ambitious project between Ayala Land and Anflocor costs 4-5 billion pesos and is considered as one of the biggest single investments in Davao City for decades.

The construction works will begin in the first quarter of 2009. The construction stage alone will employ more than 3,000 workers and each BPO building is expected to generate at least 3,000 jobs for Dabawenyos. There will be two BPO buildings to be setup in the area. (more…)
